Black Cat's Story

Black cat was a feral cat, born in the hills west of Pittsburgh.  He took up residence in the barnon the Reichow farm in 1993 and enjoyed the free life of a mouser.  Lifebecame lonely so he decided to befriend the Reichow family.  Things wererough at first but soon they became great friends.  Life was good and themice were plentiful on the farm.  In 1996 the Reichow family, Rick andTracey and their two young children, decided to leave their farm in Pennsylvaniaand move west to California.  Having grown close the family Black Catdecided to tag along and see what adventures lie ahead in the west.  Sotogether they all moved across the country to Napa Valley where they settled ona small estate just east of Napa, California.

The family decided that theymissed the farm life and planted grape vines on their acreage in 1997.   Of course they needed help taking care of the many tasks around thevineyard.  Black Cat stepped up and took over the position of generaloverseer.  He soon realized the job was much too big for one cat to handleso he recruited local talent to help.

The Crew

Odie the dog.

Every vineyard needs a guard dog.  Black cat found the perfect one for the family vineyard.  Odie showed up one day looking for work.  After a quick interview Black Cat realized that Odie was a little confused and thought he was a dog.  Black Cat immediately saw the value in this situation because a  real dog just wouldn't be as easy to manage.  He figured as long as no one told Odie he was a cat things would work out just fine.

Sylvester the house supervisor

Black Cat had been concerned about the amount of time and effort the vineyard was taking.  He had been ignoring his duties to the family, especially Rick and Tracey's young son.  There just were not enough hours in the day to properly supervise the young boy and the vineyard.  Then one day Sylvester came along and applied for a vineyard job.   Black Cat knew at once that he was the perfect match for the young boy and would be wonderful at the job of house supervisor.

Tiger the grounds keeper

Tiger was born in the barn days after Black Cat moved into Napa in 1996.  Having spent her whole life in the vineyard he was the perfect choice for grounds keeper.  As you can see she likes to stay close to his work.

Ivy the Philosopher

Ivy recently came from the Napa Valley College.  She spends her day contemplating the meaning of life.  This serves no actual function at the vineyard but lends a little class to the joint.
