A sweet spot for Syrah vines lies in the rolling terrain of Napa Valley’s southeastern hills. Rocky granite soils, light morning fog and afternoon breezes here create idyllic conditions for the elegant characteristics of Syrah. With ripening occurring at a consistent, moderate pace, the grapes develop their celebrated bright fruit and peppery characters.

Each morning begins with a stroll through our estate vineyard, (usually with a cat or two for company), carefully observing the vines’ activity since the prior day. This constant vigilance enables a swift response to Mother Nature, and it pays great dividends in the quality of the grapes. We relentlessly tweak and improve the vineyard, with the ultimate goal of harvesting the perfect grapes at the perfect time.
